Background. Pragmatic skills are a set of tools that allow the speaker to make adequate use of language to communicate in different contexts and with different interlocutors. In spite of their relevance, the instruments for their evaluation are limited in Mexico, particularly for the school-age population. Objective: to design and validate a psychometric screening instrument to measure, indirectly, the development of pragmatic-communicative skills in children aged 5 to 10 years through a key informant in the city of San Luis Potosí, Mexico. Method: a cross-sectional analytical design was used, and an exploratory factor analysis was performed. The final sample consisted of 285 participants, 215 women (75.4%) and 70 men (24.5%), with a mean age of 31.1 years (SD= 7.8). Results: a trifactorial solution was obtained with an explained variance of 56.33% and McDonald's omega (ω) reliability of 0.95. Conclusions: The psychometric properties and characteristics of the scale, place it as an alternative for teachers, psycho-pedagogues and guidance teams for the detection of problems in the pragmatic domain in this age period.
